One of my "what if" questions of rock bass players has always been:

what if stanley clarke or jaco ever went rock; and what would have been their impact?

I recall seeing clarke with the new barbarians in '79 (Richards, Woods, Clarke, McLagan, and Modeliste)and though I wasn't totally musically fulfilled, I did leave thinking stanley clarke was god. I should note that I saw him around 2000 play stand-up live for the first time in twenty plus years (with McCoy Tyner) and he was still god!!!

Jaco Pastorius, requires a book; he was in a world of his own...in more ways than one.

Regarding the list of great bomb droppers: I have always been in the Squire camp, but this thread provides a great reason to do another comparison.
